ECO SERVER HOSTING

Rent an Eco Server

In Eco every clear-cut and every factory changes the ecosystem for good — which is why the game only makes sense on a server that keeps running. There is room for up to 100 people. Note: Eco is PC-only via Steam, with no console version.

  • Clear a forest or run a factory and it stays that way — soil, climate, and animal populations respond permanently to what your group does.
  • Room for up to 100 people, since Eco itself sets no hard cap.
  • Runs entirely through the browser-based web interface on port 3001 — no extra tool to install.

Rent an Eco server — your world, your laws, a small price

Every axe leaves a mark

Soil, climate and animal populations react to what your community does — Eco simulates real ecological consequences, not just building mechanics.

Government included

You vote on laws and elect a government — the rules directly affect resource extraction and trade prices. Administration runs through the web interface on port 3001.

EcoModKit without FTP

Upload mods comfortably through the file manager — no FTP client required.

World size sets the demand

For the standard world (1 km²) with 10-20 players, 6 GB is enough. Bigger worlds with more players need more accordingly.

How much RAM does your Eco server need?

Frequently asked questions

Do we have to register with Strange Loop Games to play?
No — the server launches straight into offline mode and is reachable via IP and port. A play.eco account is only needed if you also want to list your server in the public Eco browser.
How much memory should we budget for our world?
A standard 1 km² world with 10-20 people fits comfortably in 6 GB. Growing to 2 km², plan for 8-12 GB; past 4 km² plan for 32 GB or more.
Is there a hard cap on player count?
Eco itself has none — you set the maximum (MAX_CON) yourself. Worth knowing: per the official Eco wiki, the server process runs on a single CPU core, so realistic player counts hinge more on single-core performance than on RAM alone.
What do the two Eco ports, 3000 and 3001, actually do?
Port 3000 (UDP) carries player traffic, and port 3001 (TCP) opens the web interface for management and the community page. Both come set up for you from the start.
What happens right after we order?
The server pulls Eco automatically via Steam (roughly 5-10 minutes) and is ready to play in offline mode right after. If you also want a public listing in the Eco browser, that requires an extra step through play.eco.
Can we run our own government and laws in Eco?
Yes, the democracy system is built into the game: your group votes on laws and elects a government that shapes real rules — like resource rights or trade prices. It is all managed through the web interface on your own server.
Do I get a subdomain for my server?
Every mcfreehost server ships with its own address such as yourserver.mc.mcfreehost.com right from the start. Rename it anytime from the dashboard — no ticket required.
What do add-ons like bots and databases cost?
Monitoring and database add-ons — Uptime Kuma, MariaDB, phpMyAdmin, Game Server Watcher — never carry a surcharge. For music and chat bots, the first slot you activate is included; every additional bot is billed on top, and the dashboard shows the exact cost before you switch it on.
How long until I can actually play?
Typical initial setup: about 3 minutes. Queues or large installations can take longer. Larger Steam installs can take a bit longer depending on the game.
Am I locked into a long-term contract?
No — you are on a subscription that renews monthly, and you can cancel it from the dashboard whenever you like; the same goes for turning off automatic renewal.
Are the servers located in Germany?
Yes. All game servers run in German data centres (Falkenstein and Limburg) connected to the major German exchanges — low pings for players across Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and solid latency for the rest of Europe.
Which provider is best for my server?
The best provider is the one that shows you what you get before you pay: RAM, slots, location, price and cancellation terms. Here the price and resources are visible in the configurator before checkout, there is no minimum term and setup is automated — feel free to compare that with other offers.
Should I host the server myself or rent one?
Self-hosting costs power, time and a machine that runs around the clock; port forwarding, updates and backups are on you. A rented server is online within minutes, keeps running when your PC is off, and updates, DDoS protection and backups are included. For one or two friends on a single evening self-hosting is often fine — for a persistent world, renting pays off.
