Tested technical baseline
The Pixelmon Modpack is available as a launchable server configuration with neoforge on Minecraft 1.21.1.
Ready-to-launch Minecraft server
Pixelmon brings over 1,000 Pokémon to Minecraft — catch, train and battle them. A Pixelmon server does not fit the free plan, though: The Pixelmon Modpack 9.4.1 runs from 6 GB of RAM on NeoForge on our servers, while the free mcfreehost server has 2 GB. That is a paid plan, and we would rather say so up front than after a failed install.

The free server with 2 GB of RAM is enough for vanilla, Paper and small mod collections. Pixelmon is a different scale: the mod file alone is around 400 MB, plus Terralith, Tectonic, Structory, Incendium, JEI and JourneyMap. The Pixelmon team itself names 4 GB of allocated memory as the minimum, "preferably more". That is why Pixelmon is listed with 6 GB in our catalog and on the paid plan only.
We install The Pixelmon Modpack 9.4.1 on Minecraft Java 1.21.1 with NeoForge 21.1.248 and Java 21. Since version 9.3.0, Pixelmon requires NeoForge rather than Forge according to the official wiki; the hybrid server Arclight has not been compatible since 9.2.4. On Modrinth, 9.4.1 is flagged as a beta, and the latest version marked as a release is 9.3.16. We ship 9.4.1 because it is the current state of the pack, and we would rather tell you that openly.
On 25 September 2026 we installed and started exactly this version on our own test server: the first start took about 56 seconds until "Done", restarts 60 to 68 seconds. Without players the server used 1.37 GiB of 6 GB and held 20 TPS. On first start, Pixelmon created 26 settings files in config/pixelmon, 9 more for spawning, and its own dimension called Ultra Space. We did not run a player test, so this page says nothing about the load with ten people online.
Every player needs The Pixelmon Modpack in the same version as the server, most easily through the Modrinth App. The pack download is a small 46 MB, but the client then fetches the 400 MB mod and a 143 MB music resource pack. According to the wiki, the server rejects a different version with a "Mod Rejection" message. If you prefer a leaner pack on Fabric, Cobblemon is our alternative; the Cobblemon guides explain settings and permissions in detail.

On our test server on 25 September 2026, Pixelmon 9.4.1 used 1.37 GiB of RAM without players at an allocation of 6 GB and ran at 20 TPS. That is an idle value: it shows what the pack needs at start, not how many players a server can carry. 6 GB leaves headroom for battles, raids, a growing world and several players.
The Pixelmon Modpack 9.4.1, Minecraft Java 1.21.1, NeoForge 21.1.248, Java 21 — installed and started on our test server on 25 September 2026.
The Pixelmon team names 4 GB as the minimum; we start at 6 GB. You can add RAM in the panel later without reinstalling the pack.
The free server has 2 GB — not enough for a 400 MB mod with its own dimension. For vanilla, Paper and small mods it remains the right choice.
Pixelmon is a NeoForge mod. Bedrock devices such as consoles or phones cannot join the server, not even through Geyser.
A successful installation, startup or join test applies only to the tested version and does not demonstrate stable operation under every player load.

Yes. The wizard preselects the matching loader; modpack pages also load only the verified featured pack.
Yes. Always check compatibility and create a backup before changing versions.
No. The free server has 2 GB of RAM, while Pixelmon needs at least 4 GB according to its developers and 6 GB on our servers. That is why we offer Pixelmon on the paid plan only. The price is shown above next to the RAM figure and in the configurator before you pay.
Both packs run on Minecraft 1.21.1 with 6 GB on our servers. Cobblemon Official runs on Fabric and stays closer to regular Minecraft; Pixelmon runs on NeoForge and brings far more systems of its own, such as raids, a trading card game, NPCs and its own dimension. Mods cannot be mixed between Fabric and NeoForge — if your group already has favourite mods, their loader decides.
Minecraft Java Edition and The Pixelmon Modpack in the same version as the server, currently 9.4.1. The easiest way is the Modrinth App; then they enter the server address from the panel. With a different version the server shows a "Mod Rejection" message.
The Pixelmon team flags new versions as beta at first; the latest version marked as a release is 9.3.16 from May 2026. 9.4.1 started without errors on our test server. If you want to play it safe, create a backup in the panel before every pack update.
Pixelmon stores its settings as YAML files in config/pixelmon, with spawning in config/pixelmon/spawning. Open the files in the panel file manager, stop the server first and restart it afterwards. Permissions are handled with LuckPerms for NeoForge; the mod ships its own permission nodes for its commands.
No. Pixelmon is a Java mod for NeoForge. Geyser only translates vanilla content for Bedrock, not mod models, menus or battles. For mixed Java and Bedrock groups, a vanilla or Paper server is the better choice.
