Tested technical baseline
RLCraft is available as a launchable server configuration with forge on Minecraft 1.12.2.
Ready-to-launch Minecraft server
RLCraft turns Minecraft into a fight for survival against thirst, cold, dragons and parasites. For your own RLCraft server, we set up version 2.9.3 with 6 GB RAM. This is a paid server, because the free plan is not enough for the 178 mods.

RLCraft only runs on Minecraft 1.12.2, with Forge 14.23.5.2860 and Java 8. The author does not support newer Minecraft versions; this is not a restriction on our part. On our test server on September 24, 2026, there were 178 mods in the mods folder after installation, and the server used about 450 MB of disk space.
The pack ships with its own server.properties and a file with instructions for server operators. Among other things, it says: flying must be allowed (allow-flight=true), otherwise the server kicks players on flying mounts and in fairy rings. The watchdog is turned off (max-tick-time=-1) so that large structures don't count as a crash, and command blocks stay on because villagers in generated buildings otherwise don't appear correctly. Leave these values as they are.
World generation is customized as well. In config/ice_and_fire.cfg, dragon caves and dragon nests are set to 1 in 400 per chunk, making them rarer than the mod's default. Dangerous enemies such as dragons or cyclopes only spawn from 200 blocks away from spawn, and dragons do not disappear on their own. A blood moon comes roughly every hundredth night, and the parasites' evolution system is turned off.
The view distance is set to 10 chunks. According to the pack guide, this is the value for full compatibility; if the server starts to stutter, you may go down to 8 or 6, but not lower. By the way, the world is called World with a capital W. If you restore a backup or upload your own map, you have to replace exactly this folder.
Game, loader and tested preset are preselected and remain adjustable.

RLCraft needed around 3 GB on our test server even without players, measured five minutes after a restart. With every person exploring new areas, chunks, creatures and structures are added. 6 GB leave about half of that free. We have not done a measurement with real players.
RLCraft v2.9.3, Minecraft 1.12.2, Forge 14.23.5.2860 and Java 8, installed, started and verified with a login test on September 24, 2026.
From the container start to the "Done" message, 90 seconds passed on a restart and 129 seconds on the very first start.
Without players, usage five minutes after the restart was about 3 GB of 6 GB. The rest remains for players, dragons and new chunks.
The pack sets difficulty=3. According to the guide, RLCraft is tuned to this level; set lower, it lacks the balance it was built for.
A successful installation, startup or join test applies only to the tested version and does not demonstrate stable operation under every player load.

Yes. The wizard preselects the matching loader; modpack pages also load only the verified featured pack.
Yes. Always check compatibility and create a backup before changing versions.
No. The empty server alone used about 3 GB on our setup, while the free plan offers 2 GB. RLCraft is therefore only available as a paid server with 6 GB. You can see what that costs per month in the configurator before you pay.
On the first start, RLCraft wrote 12 ERROR lines and over a thousand WARN lines to the log, for example about recipes, mod signatures or ore entries from Ice and Fire. The server still started normally. As long as "Done" appears at the end and players can join, you don't need to do anything.
Minecraft Java Edition and RLCraft 2.9.3 on their own computer, for example via the CurseForge app. With a different pack version, mods are missing when joining. Players on console or mobile cannot play along.
RLCraft uses the First Aid mod: each body part has its own health points. In the included config/firstaid.cfg, these points grow with your hearts and are not capped at six hearts. So if you collect more hearts, your head and legs can also take more.
