Minecraft Bedrock: check server builds and updates

Reviewed on October 30, 2026. The official download API serves Bedrock Dedicated Server 1.26.61.1 for Windows and Linux. The detailed Mojang changelog reviewed here is 26.60, dated October 27, 2026. A server filename and a changelog number describe different things: the download alone does not establish fixes or a release date for 26.61. Version 26.51 is no longer the current download recommendation.

What matters for operation?

The 26.60 changelog describes experimental content and notes RakNet deprecation in favour of NetherNet for dedicated servers. Check real connections from your devices and network settings after updating; do not enable experiments on an existing world without testing. The separate preview download 1.26.70.22 is a test build, not a normal update recommendation.

A native Bedrock server and a Java server with Geyser are different setups. Geyser requires compatible Java server, Geyser and Bedrock client versions; a native Bedrock ZIP does not update a Java server. On mcfreehost, check the build actually offered. Upstream downloads do not prove we have installed them.

Update safely

1. Record the previous server version, runtime, extensions and client versions. Check the requirements of the intended build.
2. Stop the server cleanly and back up the world, configuration and extensions together outside the server directory. Download a copy.
3. Test the switch with a world copy and the complete matching file set. Do not modify the only copy of your world.
4. Check startup logs, world loading, joining, permissions and key gameplay functions with every intended device.
5. Deploy only the tested combination. To roll back, restore the previous files together with their world backup; downgrading a newly saved world is not a dependable recovery method.

Common questions

A friend cannot join? Compare client and server versions and the error message first. For crossplay, check Geyser too; for native servers, also test connectivity after the network changes. Do not force a blanket version switch without that comparison.

Should the preview run on the main world? Use a separate test copy. Experimental content and preview versions may change.

Can I simply switch back? Restore the old server software with the matching world and add-on backup.
