Reviewed on October 30, 2026. The official NeoForged Maven repository publishes several Minecraft branches in parallel. Minecraft 26.3 has NeoForge 26.3.0.99 without a beta suffix; the 26.2 branch is at 26.2.0.93, and 26.1.2 at 26.1.2.125. These are not interchangeable updates. September's claim that 26.3 only has an early beta is outdated.

Which branch belongs on your server?

Your modpack determines the Minecraft version, NeoForge version and mod files. Filter by that branch first, then compare its builds. The global Maven “release” field reads 26.1.2.125 at retrieval: it does not automatically identify the newest Minecraft branch or a universal production recommendation. Build counters from different Minecraft branches cannot be compared directly.

The official 26.3.0.99 POM refers to NeoForm 26.3-1. Mojang's Minecraft 26.3 package requires Java 25. Also check your pack's specific Java requirements and the environment offered in the mcfreehost panel. An upstream release proves neither support from every mod nor current panel availability.

Installation and files

For a self-managed test installation, NeoForged documents running the matching installer with --installServer. Use the startup script generated for the chosen version; the guide places additional memory settings in user_jvm_args.txt. The installer JAR is not simply an executable server JAR. A managed panel has its own matching installation and startup instructions.

Check every mod's Minecraft branch, loader, dependencies and environment. A Fabric or Forge file is not approved for NeoForge merely because the game name matches. Client-only mods do not automatically belong on a dedicated server. Updating the loader does not replace missing mods or validate your world.

What about an existing world?

Treat a move from 26.1.2 to 26.2 or 26.3 as a migration of the entire combination. Prepare a separate world copy and check inventories, modded blocks, dimensions and saved content. Missing mods can make content inaccessible; a successful start does not prove the complete world survived.

Update safely

  1. Record the previous server version, runtime, extensions and client versions. Check the requirements of the intended build.
  2. Stop the server cleanly and back up the world, configuration and extensions together outside the server directory. Download a copy.
  3. Test the switch with a world copy and the complete matching file set. Do not modify the only copy of your world.
  4. Check startup logs, world loading, joining, permissions and key gameplay functions with every intended device.
  5. Deploy only the tested combination. To roll back, restore the previous files together with their world backup; downgrading a newly saved world is not a dependable recovery method.

Common questions

Is Maven “release” a recommendation for everyone? No. Choose the branch approved by your modpack. The global value 26.1.2.125 seen at retrieval does not replace branch selection.

Is a build without a beta suffix guaranteed safe? No. Version 26.3.0.99 is published without that suffix; you still need to test your actual world, mods and clients.

Can I jump from 26.1.2 to 26.3? Only with support from the pack and all required mods. Test a copy and retain the complete old setup.

Can I roll back just the loader? A reliable recovery needs the previous loader and mod files, configuration and world backup together. Starting newly saved world data with old files is not a tested rollback.
