Checked on September 23, 2026. The official download of the Minecraft Bedrock Dedicated Server provides 1.26.51.1. This is the server build for hotfix 26.51, which Mojang released on September 15/16 following the game drop 26.50 "Wilderness Bound". Bedrock servers at mcfreehost have been installing this build since September 16. A preview (1.26.60.28) is also available for download in parallel; it's a test version and doesn't belong on a server with a world you want to keep.
What 26.50 and 26.51 Bring
26.50 introduces the Dappled Forest biome with poplar trees in autumn colors, poplar wood as a complete wood type, stairs and slabs made of wool and concrete, cushions to sit on, straw beds made of hay bales, and new explorer maps. According to Mojang, 26.51 fixes a crash when opening certain worlds and otherwise changes nothing about the game.
Important for your server: Bedrock clients on phone and console usually update automatically. Players with 26.51 generally can no longer join a server with an older build. Conversely, not every platform receives a new build on the same day. If a friend can't join, first compare the version numbers.
Bedrock Server or Java Server with Geyser?
A Bedrock Dedicated Server uses the native Bedrock server software. Paper, on the other hand, is a Java server software. Geyser allows Bedrock clients to access a properly configured Java server; it doesn't turn that server's world into a native Bedrock server. On a native server, the Bedrock build determines whether new Bedrock clients can connect; on a Java server with Geyser, it's the Geyser version that decides.
Updating Safely
- Note down the current server version and the add-ons in use. Check which version your clients display.
- Stop the server cleanly and back up the world and configuration together. Download a copy.
- For a native Bedrock server, only choose a Bedrock build. Don't force a switch using files from a different server software.
- After starting, check the loaded version, error messages, and that the correct world is loaded.
- Test joining with all the devices you use. A world that has been loaded with a newer build usually can no longer be opened with an older one. Keep the backup in case you need to roll back.
Frequently Asked Questions
My Friend Can No Longer Join Since the Update. What Should I Do?
Compare the version numbers of the client and server. If the client shows a newer version, the server needs to be on 1.26.51.1. If it shows an older one, the device is still missing the update. With Java crossplay, you should also check the Geyser version.
Should I Test the 26.60 Preview on My Server?
Only on a separate test server with a copy of the world. Preview builds can alter worlds so that they can no longer be opened with the normal release afterward.
Can I Simply Start an Updated World with an Older Version?
Don't rely on that. To roll back, you need the earlier server software along with the matching world backup.
